I really want to change the name of this blog, because I have fallen out of love with the term “tomboy”… I still absolutely adore androgynous fashion and “masculine” clothes, but the idea that a girl can’t act a certain way without being labelled a “boy” is really outdated. I also hate the fact that being a “tomboy” is seen as a good way for a girl to be, but if it was the other way around (i.e. a male who acted in a “feminine” way) he would be ridiculed, because it’s seen as a negative thing to be a girl.
To quote the great Madonna (and she is great):
“Girls can wear jeans
And cut their hair short
Wear shirts and boots
'Cause it's OK to be a boy
But for a boy to look like a girl is degrading
'Cause you think that being a girl is degrading”
I don’t know. I’d rather the term be “tomgirl” than “tomboy” I guess.
